While Orientation Week is a very exciting time on campus, it also presents a heightened risk of experiencing GBV. Equipping all incoming students with education and information about campus GBV resources is vital to preventing GBV through the first eight weeks of school and beyond. As a result, PSI student unions from coast to coast have come up with creative, innovative, and effective ways to increase GBV education and prevention during Orientation.

We were so honoured to have Vikki Reynolds close out our National Skillshare Series. Vikki led us in thinking through collective care, and how genuine connectedness and revolutionary love are critical for sustainability in our movement to end GBV. Response to Disclosures and Support for People Affected by Gender-Based Violence at Post-Secondary Institutions in Canada: Evaluation Framework by Courage to Act's Frontline GBV Campus Workers Community of Practice is an evaluation framework with guidelines to evaluate PSI response to disclosures and the provision of support when addressing GBV. This framework adopts a Theory-Driven Evaluation model, using a program theory and program logic to guide an integrated monitoring and evaluation plan.

We are excited to profile UniSAFE, a three-year, EU-funded research project launched in February 2021 that aims to tackle gender-based violence (GBV) in academia. UniSAFE is led by a multidisciplinary consortium of nine European partners. They have begun work with 45 post-secondary institutions and research institutions in Europe to develop a toolkit and recommendations to address and prevent GBV, with the aim of creating wide-spread institutional change.

It is a vibrant anthology with student stories and student advocacy tools. It builds on a rich legacy of student organizing; it captures their stories of advocating for safer campuses, provides concrete examples for student organizers to be inspired, and gives examples of tools to create change on their campuses.

FAQ for International Students by Courage to Act's International Students Community of Practice is a first-of-its-kind resource guide to support international students studying at Canadian post-secondary institutions who have experienced, witnessed, or perpetrated sexual and gender-based violence.

We invite gender justice advocates in community organizations and at Canadian post-secondary institutions to read, engage and implement action plans that support and affirm 2SLGBTQIA gender-based violence survivors with the help of the resources below. We hope these resources will inspire action through Pride Month and beyond.

Courage to Act is pleased to release a new database of all campus sexual violence support and prevention offices (CSVSPOs) at post-secondary institutions in Canada. We hope it will help increase awareness of available resources, facilitate knowledge-sharing, and support a connected national network of experts working to end gender-based violence on campuses.

In February 2021, post-secondary consultations to inform Canada’s National Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence were led by Possibility Seeds’ Courage to Act, the Canadian Federation of Students (CFS), and the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance (OUSA). We captured urgent needs and promising practices from students, frontline workers, staff, faculty and senior administrators at PSIs across the country. Courage to Act distilled these rich insights into 12 key policy recommendations.

Campus student unions play an important role in creating student-funded and student-led gender-based violence (GBV) support and prevention initiatives on Canadian post-secondary campuses. Many of these initiatives are funded through student levy fees (collected by the student union), and maintained through campus referendum votes or democratic budget approvals.

Le projet de la communauté de pratique francophone comprend deux outils qui visent à identifier des stratégies pour susciter la mobilisation du personnel des établissements d’enseignement postsecondaire en matière de prévention des violences sexuelles et genrées. Ces outils sont complémentés par un rapport qui présente de manière détaillée les résultats d’un sondage effectué auprès de 700 personnes qui travaillent au sein d’un établissement d’enseignement postsecondaire du Canada.

Le 19 mai dernier, plusieurs membres de notre communauté ont participé à une discussion animée en présence de notre conférencière invitée : Melissa Mollen Dupuis. Cette rencontre s’inscrivait dans le cadre de notre Congrès pancanadien de partage des compétences visant à prévenir et contrer la violence fondée sur le genre au sein des établissements d’enseignement postsecondaire canadiens, soit la toute première conférence visant à prévenir et contrer la violence fondée sur le genre tenue à l’échelle du pays.
