At the Root: A Systems Change Approach to Addressing Sexual Harassment in STEM-focused Experiential Learning
With support from Women and Gender Equality Canada (WAGE), this 17-month systemic change project is scaling national efforts to address sexual harassment faced by women and gender-diverse post-secondary students in STEM-focused experiential learning. While the rates of sexual harassment are among the highest in this sector, there are substantial gaps in research, support and resources to address this issue.
To address this, the project will engage in focused resource creation, education and training, network building, and advocacy. At the Root will also build upon the successful national research-to-action (Experiential Learning Project) implemented in Possibility Seeds’ national Courage to Act initiative.
Over the next 17 months, At the Root will focus on:
Resource Development – Adapting three national resources to meet the specific needs of STEM programs.
Educational and Professional Development Opportunities – Developing training for post-secondary staff, administrators, career centres, employers and experiential students across six provinces (ON, AB, QC, NS, NB, and PEI).
Policy & Legislative Advocacy – Scaling educational efforts to influence policies and legislation based on national findings.
